The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its nod for the reappointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Axis Bank, effective from January 1, 2025. Chaudhry’s reappointment extends his leadership tenure for another three years, concluding on December 31, 2027. This regulatory approval follows the endorsement from Axis Bank’s shareholders, who had already voted in favor of Chaudhry’s continued leadership at the 30th Annual General Meeting held on July 26, 2024.
In a regulatory filing, Axis Bank confirmed RBI’s formal approval, citing the RBI letter (no. CO.HGG.DOR.No.S4419/08.86.001/2024-25) dated October 24, 2024, which officially sanctioned Chaudhry’s reappointment.

Who is Amitabh Chaudhry?
Amitabh Chaudhry joined Axis Bank as MD and CEO on January 1, 2019, bringing extensive experience from a successful tenure with HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, where he worked for over nine years.
Chaudhry holds an engineering degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. He began his career in 1987 at Bank of America, where he held several senior positions, including Head of Technology Investment Banking for Asia, Regional Finance Head for Wholesale Banking and Global Markets, Chief Finance Officer (India), and Relationship Manager for Wholesale Banking across Mumbai and Delhi.
In 2001, Chaudhry transitioned to Credit Lyonnais Securities as Head of Structured Finance and later took on the role of Head of Investment Banking for Southeast Asia. His career continued to rise as he joined Infosys BPO in 2003, where he served as Managing Director and CEO and led the Infosys testing unit. Later, he joined HDFC Life, where he played a critical role in scaling the company.
