Moldova has officially joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA), marking a significant step towards global efforts in promoting sustainable energy solutions. The announcement was made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), highlighting Moldova’s commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives.
Framework Agreement Signed
The ISA Framework Agreement was signed by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi. In a statement, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Moldova’s participation:
“We welcome Moldova joining global efforts to promote clean energy and sustainability through the ISA platform.”
In addition to the ISA agreement, the two leaders signed a declaration of intent on Migration and Mobility, further strengthening bilateral ties.
India’s Leadership in ISA Initiatives
The ISA, headquartered in India, is a treaty-based international intergovernmental organization aimed at mobilizing over $1,000 billion in solar energy investments by 2030. India, under its Presidency of the ISA, has spearheaded various impactful initiatives to scale up solar energy deployment, particularly in the Global South.
Key projects include:
- Solarisation of Malawi’s Parliamentary building.
- Solar-powered healthcare centers in Fiji.
- Solar-powered cold storage facility in Seychelles.
- Solar PV rooftop systems in Kiribati.
ISA Membership Milestone
Moldova becomes the latest country to join the ISA, following Armenia, which last month became the alliance’s 104th full member. The ISA unites member countries to overcome barriers related to technology, finance, and capacity-building in scaling up solar energy worldwide.
India’s proactive role in the ISA underscores its commitment to providing renewable energy solutions globally, fostering a sustainable energy future for developing and developed nations alike.
