Hindalco Industries Ltd, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group and a leader in copper and aluminum production, has been elected as a new member of the International Copper Association (ICA).
Founded in 1958, Hindalco Industries is recognized as India’s largest copper producer, specializing in the manufacture of copper cathodes and continuous cast copper rods for both domestic and global markets. The company’s advanced copper smelter stands as one of Asia’s largest single-location custom smelters, reflecting its commitment to sustainable industrial growth.
Rohit Pathak, CEO of Hindalco’s Copper Business, expressed enthusiasm about joining the ICA, stating, “We are excited to collaborate with the global copper community to enhance the value chain of this essential metal, which plays a crucial role in the world’s transition to net-zero emissions. India is poised to become a key hub for copper and its products in the coming decades. As a global leader, Hindalco’s membership in the ICA will empower us to strengthen the industry further, and we look forward to contributing to sustainability initiatives and the development of innovative applications in the copper sector.”
ICA President Juan Ignacio Díaz welcomed Hindalco to the association, emphasizing the importance of responsibly produced copper. “Hindalco’s leadership and commitment to social responsibility, along with their innovative production practices, align perfectly with our vision for advancing human development,” he remarked.
Stephen Rowland, Chair of the Board of Directors at ICA and representative from Glencore, highlighted the significance of Hindalco’s membership: “ICA serves as the global voice for copper, providing a unique blend of global reach and local expertise. Hindalco Industries’ addition strengthens our commitments to responsible production and sustainable development, not just in India, but worldwide.”
