India-Saudi Arabia Joint Working Group Formed to Boost Maritime Ties


In a strategic move, India and Saudi Arabia have established a Joint Working Group (JWG) to enhance maritime collaboration, strengthen trade ties, and explore investments in ports and logistics. This decision was formalized during a virtual meeting on August 20, 2025, between India’s Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser.

Historic and Economic Bonds: India and Saudi Arabia share deep economic and socio-cultural ties, evolving into a strategic partnership. Strengthening trade routes, reducing logistics costs, and creating investment opportunities are the main goals of this new maritime partnership.

Current Bilateral Trade: India–Saudi trade volume for FY 2024–25 reached approximately USD 42 billion.
