In a significant boost to infrastructure and tourism in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate projects worth over Rs 284 crore in Ekta Nagar on October 31. The event will coincide with Diwali celebrations and the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrated as National Unity Day.
Key Projects to Be Inaugurated in Ekta Nagar
Among the flagship projects are:
- Bonsai Garden: A unique botanical experience for visitors.
- Sardar Sarovar Dam Experience Center: A center showcasing the dam’s history and operational impact.
- Sub-District Hospital: Constructed at a cost of Rs 22 crore, this hospital will include a trauma center, gynecological operating theatre, and ICU-on-wheels.
- Sewage Treatment Plant: A new Rs 75 crore plant designed to handle waste from around 4,000 homes and businesses, enhancing public health.
These initiatives are aimed at bolstering Ekta Nagar’s profile as a prime tourist destination with facilities that support both local residents and visitors.
Statue of Unity to Serve as Backdrop for National Unity Day Inaugurations
Set against the iconic Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, the event will draw attention to the impressive development of Ekta Nagar. The Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SoUADTGA) will also unveil Phase 1 of smart infrastructure improvements, including 10 smart bus stops, 10 tourist pick-up stands, and new traffic circles at key junctions.
Enhancing Tourist Facilities: Pedestrian Safety, Transportation, and Scenic Walkways
Other new facilities include push-button pedestrian crossings at 10 locations, car charging stations near Reva Bhavan, and a running track for the SRP force, all designed to improve pedestrian safety. A 4 MW solar power project valued at Rs 23.26 crore will also be launched, supporting renewable energy development in the region.
To beautify Ekta Nagar, 24 sculptures crafted during the 2024 Sculpture Symposium will be installed, reflecting themes of water, nature, and unity.
Upcoming Infrastructure Developments for Flood Management and Tourism
In response to the 2023 floods, additional developments will help safeguard the area:
- Flood Protection Measures: A protection wall near the Cactus Garden will be extended, creating a new riverfront area with food stalls and walkways.
- New Jetty for River Transport: Enhances transportation options for tourists.
- Land Leveling in Hospitality District: An investment of Rs 60 crore to raise land levels and prevent future flooding in the hospitality sector.
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stones for the Fire Staff Residential Quarters and a state-of-the-art sewage treatment facility.
